Phindy’s #41 - Can I Help Grandad?

Embossing

Hi all! I am soooo excited!  This is my first card as a member of Phindy’s DT, so I hope Phindy likes it!  Our theme this week is ‘embossing’, and that can be heat embossing or dry embossing with either embossing folders or embossing tools.  I went for the latter option of hand embossing.

The image I chose to use today is ‘Big Boots Girl with Glasses’ isn’t she just gorgeous.  She is available without glasses too and also as an African American – not to mention her male counterparts!  I could just hear this little ‘helper’ asking to lend a hand, (hence the title of my card), but helping in her own way of course and prettifying everything as she goes along, by adding bows and glittery bits and basically making everything more 'girly'.  I coloured her with Promarkers with the exception of her pink t-shirt which was paper-pieced before being shaded with my pens too. I then set about constructing the layers underneath which hold all the embossing.

Both the main DP and & that of the t-shirt are from the Papermania’s Raspberry Champagne pad and the striped background was matted onto a very scrummy embossed card base which just looks like that steel flooring, I am sure you know the kind I mean - so just had to be perfect for my card.  The grey rectangular mat off-set behind the image was hand embossed with a weave design which I thought echoed the card ground nicely.  It was then inked with ‘Tattered Rose’ & then black to bring out the edges and the embossing.  The circle layer is just cut from white card but to create the small screw heads I created my own embossing shape.  First, out of some scrap card I punched a circle then popped my card circle on top where I wanted the ‘screw’ to be. I then hand embossed the punched out area, rotating the circle until I got to the next screw placement and repeated the process.  This gave me a circle with small embossed circles around the edge.  I then turned the circle over and scored each raised ‘screw’ down the middle with a very fine headed embossing tool to give me the slot headed screw effect.  The embossed circle was then coloured with Promarkers.

The larger screws were created by using a small circular punch (X-cut), and then scoring the top down the middle with the embossing tool before being Promarker-ed.  These were attached with foam pads to give some height but as they were also holding down the silver cord, the pads were also given a touch of Pinflair glue to make sure they were permanently fixed into position and could move nowhere.  The sentiment hanging from the cord is from Sentiments4You and this was also inked with Tattered Rose.  Sucker for punishment that I am, I then also embossed the centre of the flower.  This time using crafting foil by LP Creative.  I kept it fairly simple, tooling where the veins might go through the petals but didn’t ink over it as I reckoned a little girl would prefer it nice and shiny. LOL.

Do try to join in with our challenge this week at Phindy’s and I am sure you could find some element/s of your card which would look great embossed in some way. You don’t have to use one of Phindy’s images but if you do, your entry counts twice – so double the chance of winning!!!!  If you have never checked out her shop before just click here and see what you have been missing.  Hope to see you at Phindy’s Place!

Tine :)
