Hi everyone. Today’s card features the fabulous image called ‘Trick or Treat’ from the talented Mo Manning, and as the Challenge at Mo’s Digital is for Halloween this week, she is perfect. The look on that poor dog’s face gets me every time…. LOL.

So, as for this particular card’s construction, let’s start from the top and work backwards. The image has been coloured with Promarkers, though a Versa Color ink pad, in Atlantic Blue, added the dappled background colour to the white card. The larger of the image’s two mats is a gorgeous bit of Core’dinations Card, from the appropriately named, Black Magic range, and this brown-backed black card (gosh that's a bit of a mouthful!!! LOL), is from the Spell Caster pad. It has been fully distressed to within an inch of its life, firstly by being scrunched up, then being sanded down to reveal that brown core. The added dimension that the crinkling up gave to this card, meant that silicone glue was my adhesive of choice to secure this distressed cardstock into position.

The image and its mats were then mounted onto a fabulous bit of imagery from Create and Craft, a digi paper I felt was just perfect for this card. Matt black cardstock, as well as a glossy one, added the layers. The place of embellishments has been taken instead by two ultra large cross stitches in opposing corners, created with nothing more special than ordinary sewing thread as I didn’t want them to be too thick.

PSDT#1 Leaving for Uni

Today’s card is dedicated to all those youngsters venturing out into the big wide world, away from the parental home, going to University. The colours I chose to use for this card though, suggest more of a male recipient, just waiting to pack all his necessities (and fancy dress outfits for Freshers’ Week no doubt! LOL)

This is my first card for the Priscillastyles DT. Using the image of the ‘Steamer Trunk’ from the Priscillastyles Store, I coloured it in with Promarkers hoping to achieve a golden metallic edge to an old leather trunk with wooden drawers inside. I paper-pieced the ‘brocade’ yellow interior, adding shading to it, again with my Promarker pens.

The layer behind the image is hopefully reminiscent of an old painted wooden frame. This was made by colouring white card with pale yellow Promarkers before stamping using an Anna Griffin stamp -firstly with a black Memento inkpad and then over-stamping with a gold inkpad -before shadows and definition were added with Promarkers and then a gold gel pen added a touch of glitz just on the high points of the stamped design. (Not sure it shows up on the photo very well though). The background paper was a taken from an Artylicious CD, the Damask Delights and this has been sewn onto the card to secure, whilst the sentiment was simply made on the PC, inked around the edges and stuck down at several points so it looks like it is a banner waving in the wind. The mortar board cap is something I have created several times before and has a black brad in the centre, matching the one on the sentiment.

Musical Teen

Today's card uses an image from Paper Makeup Stamps, available at Quixotic Paperie and is perfect for a musical teen. I coloured her in with Promarkers in a range of blues, though from the look on her face, she ain't singing them! LOL. The image's mat has been cut using a Nestability die, Labels Eight and has been inked using Tim Holtz' Faded Jeans Distress Ink. Now I have finally succumbed and bought a die cutter, I have to make the most of it! LOL.

I hoped my choice of backing paper would be as youthful and free as the image itself, all backed onto bright blue holographic, which no doubt would appeal to a youngster. The sewing secures all the layers together, but also gives one 'extra layer' to the stack of mats in the middle, following the same layout of a twisted rectangle. Glittered ribbon lies behind a die-cut flower created from one of Marianne Designs dies, with a Promarker touching some of the embossed areas before a huge gemstone was attached to the middle.

#29 Getting Ready

Now, I know what you are thinking – this is a change of direction from her usual work…but I do believe that our creativity grows with challenging ourselves, after all these are all called ‘Challenges’– to make us stretch ourselves.

At I ♥ Promarkers this week the Challenge is to use a charm on your creation, and we have been lucky enough to work with images from ‘Digi Doodle Shops Best’. With my selection of image called ‘Gone with the Wind #1’, I created this card of a young woman getting ready for her big day.

The backing paper is actually some scrapbooking 12” x 12” that I first cut to the right size for my A4 printer before adding 2 digi images to it to set the scene. Both dress forms are free images from the Graphics Fairy. Having printed them onto my backing paper, I then cut it down to size and then it was sewn using the sewing machine incorporating this totally gorgeous piece of lace I once acquired just because I liked it….you know how you do….? LOL.

The mirror’s frame is actually rather complicated in construction, and I don’t feel that the photo shows this entirely, but this is how I made it anyway. Firstly, the outline is another digi, this time from Tiffany Doodles. It comes with a black outline of course, but I imported the image into my graphics program to re-colour it an antiqued gold colour. I then took my black Memento inkpad and a clear stamp from Anna Griffin with suitable old-style swirls on it and stamped over the frame. I then used Promarkers to colour it in before re-stamping using the same stamp, but this time with a gold coloured inkpad. I then used a gold gel pen to add extra highlights to where the raised details would be. I cut around the edge and the inside oval shape before adding an oval of mirri card behind it as the mirror itself. It was then added to the card using foam pads. – Said it was quite complicated!!!!! LOL.

The focal point is of course, the image itself, and this has, it must surely go without saying now, been coloured in with my Promarkers. Digi Doodle sells some lovely digi designs, I do think it is worth you popping over and seeing if anything catches your eye. I then cut out my now blonde bride-to-be and she is adhered flat to the mirror at the top & with foam pads at the bottom of her skirt.

The element we are asking you to feature, the charm is attached to part of an old broken earring I knew would come in one day – hand sewn to the lace edge at the top before a tiny bow was popped on top using silicone glue.

The image of this well co-ordinated Miss surely needs no introduction. She is of course ‘Sorry Shanna’, the penman-ship of Mo Manning. I have used wonderfully bright papers from K & Company to create her background and also to give her an extra special dress as it was paper-pieced as you can probably see. LOL. I used my Promarkers to add to the shadows and shading on this pretty frock, as well as to colour in the rest of this gorgeous image. Stitching secures the background paper and there is another running stitch around the actual image, complete with a tiny bow to echo those in her hair.

#28 Kai in the sand

At I ♥ Promarkers this week the theme is ‘At the seaside’ and I thought that little Kai here would be just perfect as my image choice. He is of course, a creation of the talented Mo Manning (and is even available in a female permutation with a different sunhat!) Anyone who has browsed to my blog before will know how I love to colour my Mo Manning images with my Promarkers. I paper-pieced the bucket at the side of him though, - thought it was a good idea until I realised I was having to cut around his toes….! Still, I managed it better than I thought I would.

The mat immediately behind Kai is a digi paper from Crafter’s Companion and behind that is a gorgeous piece of card from the Core’dinations Whitewash pad in a suitably sandy colour, torn to reveal the colour beneath. All this was mounted on a water and shell design paper from Cardmaking & Papercraft, although most of the detail is hidden behind the mats. I think there is just enough remaining in sight to help put the theme across.

The subtly striped ribbon at the sides is from Anita’s and the shell and sea horse are from my stash. I created the sunshine at the top of the card on the PC, though I used the ‘Joy’ graphic from the generous Paulette at TLC, which I think sums up the sheer bliss of an innocent finding great happiness just running sand through his fingers. The sentiment was then mounted with foam pads.
